By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Coleen_Panetti/64344] Coleen Panetti

Who says there is something fishy on fish oils, shellfish, and other seafoods when it comes to health benefits? That is absolutely a fishy story.

Nowadays, people have come to realize the importance of seafoods in our diet. Various studies and researches have proved that the best sources of good fats, vitamins, and minerals to promote good health can actually be found on different seafoods. The only drawback is that it took so many years for most people to realize the health benefits of having seafoods in their diet.

Herbs for Health

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Conny_Jasper/598118]  Conny Jasper

Many years ago, I began seeking options for healing myself, other than conventional modern methods. In my search, I became interested in herbal remedies, so I started to learn about them and experiment with them. Over the years, I found the herbs to be very useful and valuable for my health.

Herbs are our allies that nourish and heal us. People have been using them for as long as people have been on this planet. Herbs bring us back into balance with Nature. Thousands of years ago countless plant species were part of our daily diet. Our bodies evolved utilizing plants and their nutritive and therapeutic properties.

Yoga Anti-Aging Health Benefits

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Dennis_Harris/36980]  Dennis Harris

The most common definition of aging is not what really determines it. In reality, misusing our bodies over a long time causes the body to degenerate and consequently look older. A lifetime of remaining sedentary, consuming non-nutritious foods or having poor posture while working can cause the stiffness or aches and pains commonly attributed to getting old. Regular care and maintenance of the human body is required as much as all other types of machines ever made by man. One of the major things that make the bodies of humans unique is the ability to renew or regenerate themselves at the cellular level. Yoga is an important tool that works to help maintain the health of the human body.

Reduce Heart Disease, Strokes, and Cancer by Drinking Oolong Tea

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Kevin_Woodward/20289] Kevin Woodward

There is a Chinese proverb - A daily cup of tea or more, keeps you out of the pharmacy. As you will shortly see, there is a lot of truth in this proverb. So, what is oolong tea? It is related to green tea and black tea -- they are all produced from the same plant. Green tea is made from the dried leaves, whereas black tea is made by fermentation of the leaves. Oolong tea is made by partly fermenting the leaves prior to drying.

Triglycerides and cholesterol are two important fatty substances in the bloodstream. These are essential for many things in your body but cholesterol also builds up on the wall of the arteries, causing them to narrow and restrict blood flow. This can lead to several problems including coronary thrombosis (a heart attack) and strokes, so high cholesterol levels are not a good thing. Studies in several countries have found many kinds of tea have some effect in reducing cholesterol in blood fats, though oolong seems to get the best results. It is thought that the polyphenols in tea inhibit the absorption of cholesterol in the digestive tract, thus decreasing the cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. There is also evidence that they may decrease the blood's tendency to form thrombi, or unwanted blood clots.

What Is a Stroke, What Causes It and First Aid

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Gianluca_Fontana/1655345] Gianluca Fontana

I lost already one person due to a stroke, and considering that only in the US one person dies of stroke every 4 minutes, by the time I will finish writing this post unfortunately several more people will have died. The reason why I decided to write this post is to help other people recognize the early symptoms of strokes and giving them a chance to call for help in a timely manner. Even a few minutes can greatly increase the chances of survival, so if you know somebody with high risk for a stroke please read carefully.

Yoga Versus Pilates - Which Should I Do?

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Mike_Singh/17240]Mike Singh

Many have heard of yoga and Pilates.  But, not everyone realizes that there are several differences between these two types of exercising regimens.  In fact, yoga is hardly classified as just an exercise program.  Each of these methods are quite powerful tools to allow you to feel and look better.  But, they are also very different.  In order to help you to make a choice between yoga and Pilates, let's explain them a little further.

Yoga - It came way earlier

Yoga has been around for over 5000 years. It is something much more than just a way of exercising.  In fact, it is a lifestyle change that many people need to take seriously.  This type of program is centered on the spiritual healing of the body as well as the physical aspects.  It uses a wide combination of breathing and movements to get the body back into its targeted range.  Yoga is something that encompasses the entire lifestyle in ethical, spiritual and physical form.

Healing Hearts with Yoga

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Susan_Winter_Ward/0]Susan Winter Ward

Coronary Artery Disease, CAD as referred to in the medical community, is running rampant in our country and is the leading cause of death. Yearly, about 500,000 people die, 600,000 have heart attacks, and 800,000 folks suffer from angina (chest pain caused by blockage or constriction of the coronary arteries.) The incidence of heart disease is increasing and the age at which it occurs is decreasing. The statistics are pretty frightening. Medical intervention techniques are expensive, invasive, and not very effective in the long term. Treating the symptoms is only a stop-gap measure; treating the cause is the real cure.

CAD can be prevented and can be reversed! We're talking about a paradigm shift in consciousness here, not just a new medical technique. If we truly understand the cause, we can embrace the cure. And what's the cause? We've heard this all before, high cholesterol, smoking, caffeine, lack of exercise, "Type A" or "workaholic" personality, stress and anxiety. These issues basically represent a disconnection from our innate knowledge of ourselves. If we honor and nurture ourselves, we will eat a healthy diet, exercise, relax, meditate, do yoga, and have deep, meaningful relationships. These self- honoring priorities are the answer to reversing CAD.

Benefits of Chair Yoga - Part 3

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Paul_Jerard/9999] Paul Jerard

Flexibility is considered to be a "by product" of Yoga practice, but in the case of Chair Yoga, it is often "down played" or taken for granted.  Since most Chair Yoga enthusiasts are seniors, the true value of flexibility is mobility.  When you consider that mobility for seniors can be the difference between dependence and independence, flexibility is now of extreme value.

The following is an observation I have made after working with groups from assisted living complexes, adult day care centers, nursing homes, and seniors centers.  The average mobile senior citizen is much more flexible in the hips, spine, wrists, and shoulders, than his or her dependent counterpart.

Benefits of Chair Yoga - Part 1

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Paul_Jerard/9999] Paul Jerard

In comparison to many forms of exercise, the benefits of Chair Yoga far outweigh the risks.  The therapeutic exercises work the body, from head to toes, to the best of any client's ability.

Therefore, the method used, addresses the whole body in a single routine.  This is an amazing feat, for a low-impact exercise program, where the average session lasts 45 to 60 minutes.  The following information will highlight some of the many benefits of regular participation in a Chair Yoga class.

Increased circulation is a result of movement and every body part that can move is used in a typical Chair Yoga class.  For many of us, we think of cardiovascular heath first, and this is right fully so, but Chair Yoga helps many other forms of circulation, within the body, as well.

Osteoporosis - Bone Disease That Silently Robs Your Bones

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Patricia_Weber/865]Patricia Weber

When you look in the mirror, it doesn't come into view. Just imagine, you could be twenty, thirty, forty or older and it could afflict you.  People who look at you don't see it. When it does finally surface on the outside for any human eye to see, the harm may be irreversible. The scary part is the external warning of osteoporosis is silent while inside the body is clamoring for help.

Many women rate turning fifty as a positively high experience.  I once looked forward to the celebration. The inner peace that comes with this proclaimed turning point is chafed only by my recent diagnosis of osteopenia. Osteopenia is the beginning phase of osteoporosis. Any age is too young for this disease.

Target Specific Heart Health Risks

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Robert_Nelson/43880]Robert Nelson

Heart Protection Nutritional Supplement Guide:

Following a heart-healthy diet can do a lot to reduce risk, but for many people, it's not enough.  Heart-protecting drugs usually come with troublesome side effects, such as fatigue and the possibility of liver disease.  For some risk factors, like homocysteine and low-density lipoprotein prescriptive drugs are not available.

What Is Pilates and How Can It Benefit You?

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Alexander_Liam_Moore/2290804]Alexander Liam Moore

Pilates. We have all properly heard of it, lots of people attend classes regularly, it has a great repetition for improving the symptoms of back pain & other injuries and it’s often recommended by many other health care professionals and GP's, but it seems there is a variety of opinions of what Pilates actually is.

Ayurveda and Yoga, Ancient Sister Sciences

By [http://EzineArticles.com/expert/Vishnu_Dass/5718]Vishnu Dass

Ayurveda and yoga are sister Vedic sciences that have been united for thousands of years for the sake of healing body, mind, and consciousness. Generally speaking, Ayurveda deals more with the health of the body, while yoga deals with purifying the mind and consciousness, but in reality they complement and embrace each other.

The ancient rishis (seers) were the original masters of all Vedic sciences. They understood that good health is a great asset on the path toward Self-realization. If the body is neglected it can easily become an obstacle to spiritual practice. Anyone who has practiced meditation for any length of time would agree to how difficult it can be to sit still for long periods of time without feeling discomfort and fatigue. Both yoga and Ayurveda are mutually supportive and offer many ways to prevent and heal various disorders as well as to cleanse and rejuvenate the body.
